Thoughts on Computerized Gaming
I agree with the Miss America of 2010 Winner on Video Games...Miss America of 2010 slams videogames All things in moderation though, games are good, can be very enjoyable when played with others and not days on end, thus the Wii's and Warcraft's success so long as it doesn't turn into "Warcrack" then in-turn go on to ruin lives. Video Game addiction is real and should be classified/treated as any chronic addiction. Having worked in the Gaming Industry for more than 14 years and seen first hand the effects in the population, at times it made me feel pretty guilty to be contributing to a product that people couldn't control their addiction to, to such an extent that it ruined their physical, mental and social health and more often than not their lives. Going forward though, people who use and/or have to interact with computers/computerized devices for Careers Roles who didn't play video games while growing up have been shown in studies to be at a significant disadvantage when learning/working with Graphical User Interfaces. A great deal of modern Tech benefits from lessons learned from Virtual Reality directly gained from the Gaming Industry. These range from remote Surgery Tech to operating military/research Drones and Disease/Medical Research, thus every downside has its upside I guess... Virtual Reality will just continue to become more realistic and enjoyable ,thus addictive. The Global Population will have to deal with many ethical issues surrounding governing its use and abuse so not to allow it to ruin our everyday lives, but rather to enrich them.
